Business Days Calculator - Calculate Days Between Dates

Need to know how many working days are between two dates? Our Business Days Calculator makes it simple. Enter your start and end dates, choose whether to include either date, add any holidays, and the calculator will work out the number of business days for you.
It automatically separates working days, weekends, holidays, and total calendar days, so you don't have to count dates manually.
Whether you're checking a project deadline, calculating a delivery period, planning leave, or simply trying to figure out how many workdays are left between two dates, this calculator gives you the answer in seconds.

What Is a Business Day?

A business day generally means a day when normal business operations take place. For this calculator, Monday through Friday are treated as working days, while Saturday and Sunday are treated as weekends.
You can also add specific holidays. Once added, those dates are removed from the working-day count.
For example, if you select a Monday as the start date and Friday as the end date, the calculator counts five business days when both dates are included.

How to Calculate Business Days

Using the calculator is Simple:
  1. Select your Start Date.
  2. Select your End Date.
  3. Choose whether to Include or Exclude the start date.
  4. Choose whether to Include or Exclude the end date.
  5. Add any holidays that should not be counted as working days.
  6. Click Calculate Business Days.
The result shows the total number of business days along with the calendar days, weekend days, and holidays excluded.
The calculator also displays the selected period on a calendar, making it easier to see which dates were treated as working days, weekends, or holidays.

What Does the Business Days Calculator Count?

The calculator gives you several useful numbers instead of only one result.

Business Days

This is the main result - the number of weekdays remaining after weekends and added holidays are excluded.

Calendar Days

This shows the total number of dates in the selected calculation period after applying your start and end date choices.

Weekend Days

Saturday and Sunday are automatically treated as non-working days.

Holidays

Any holidays you manually add are excluded from the business-day calculation when they fall within the selected period.

Why Start and End Date Options Matter

Sometimes you want to count the starting date and ending date. Sometimes you don't.
That's why the calculator lets you control both separately.
For example, if a task starts on Monday and finishes on Friday, you might want to count both Monday and Friday. In another situation, you may want to calculate the number of working days after a particular date, so excluding the starting date makes more sense.
You can choose Include or Exclude for both dates before calculating.

How Holidays Are Handled

Weekends are excluded automatically, but holidays can vary depending on the country, company, state, or organization.
Instead of assuming a fixed holiday calendar, this calculator lets you add the exact dates you want to exclude.
Just select a holiday date and click Add Holiday. Added holidays appear below the input and can be removed individually if you make a mistake.
This is useful when calculating business days for a specific company, project, delivery schedule, or local holiday calendar.

Business Days vs Calendar Days

These two numbers are easy to confuse.
Calendar days include every date in the selected period, including Saturdays and Sundays.
Business days exclude weekends and any holidays you add to the calculator.
For example, a five-day Monday-to-Friday period contains five calendar days and five business days if there are no holidays.
If the period also includes a Saturday and Sunday, the calendar-day count increases, while those weekend dates do not increase the business-day count.

Example: Calculating Working Days Between Two Dates

Suppose you want to calculate the working days between Monday, January 5 and Friday, January 16.
Enter the two dates into the calculator and leave both dates set to Include.
The calculator checks every date in the range and separates:
  • Working days
  • Weekend days
  • Added holidays
  • Total calendar days
If a holiday falls during the period, simply add that date before clicking Calculate Business Days. The holiday will then be excluded from the business-day total.
This makes the result much easier to verify than manually counting weekdays on a calendar.

When You Might Need a Business Days Calculator

A working-day calculator can be useful in everyday situations as well as at work.
  • Project deadlines: Project schedules often use working days rather than calendar days. Counting business days can help you understand how much working time is actually available.
  • Delivery and shipping estimates: Some delivery estimates are expressed in business days. You can enter the starting date and expected end date to check the number of working days involved.
  • Leave and vacation planning: If you need to know how many working days fall within a particular period, excluding weekends makes the calculation much easier.
  • Contracts and deadlines: Some contracts and business processes specify a response or completion period in business days. The calculator can help you check the dates without counting them manually. Lead time calculations: If a supplier, team, or service provider gives a lead time in working days, a business-day calculation can make date planning easier.
  • General workday calculations: Sometimes you simply need to answer a question like, "How many workdays are between these two dates?" This calculator is designed for exactly that.

Business Days Calculator vs Workday Calculator

You may see both terms used online: business days calculator and workday calculator.
In many situations, they refer to essentially the same type of calculation - finding the number of working days between dates while excluding non-working days.
This calculator uses Monday through Friday as standard working days and lets you manually add holidays that should also be excluded.

A Simple Way to Check Your Result

If you're using the calculator for an important deadline, it's worth checking the result against the calendar displayed below the calculation.
The calendar marks:
  • Working days in blue
  • Weekend days separately
  • Holidays with a different marker
You can also move between months within the selected date range, which makes it easier to see exactly how the dates were classified.
